NBC WORLD SERIES

The NCAA regular baseball season culminates with college sports most exciting tournament in Omaha. For summer collegiate leagues throughout the West and Midwest, the prize is getting to Wichita at the NBC College World Series. The series is held from August 1-12 and draws Omaha like crowds throughout the day. Games literallly are played all day. Some games don't end until three or four in the morning just to keep the brackets intact. For the rest of the week, we will post results from the NBC World Series.

....Taking the lead in the first inning the Southern California Bombers never relented and went on to win the game 6-0 over the Game Time (LA) Rockies. The sixth inning fueled the Bombers for another scoring run - they picked up two runs after first baseman Frank Corpus tripled down the left field line and drove in a run Corpus later scored after tagging up on a flyout in the same inning. The Bombers defense was outstanding, only allowing four hits and giving up no runs in what was the first shutout of the 75th NBC World Series.

.....Yesterdays afternoon game featured the Gunnison Colts from Colorado and the Clarinda A's from Iowa. The Colts came out on top winning 3-1. Ryan Castellanos got the Colts off to a great start with a three shot homer in the 3rd inning. Castellanos ended the game with two hits and three RBI's in four at bats. The A's attempted to make a comeback in the 9th getting two men on base but were unable to convert.

....What started out as a blowout ended in a close game between the LA Rockies and the Austin, TX Gold Sox. The Rockies were able to hold on to their early game lead and ended up winning 11-10. The Gold Sox made a tremendous comeback in the 8th inning scoring six runs which cut the Rockies lead to one. Neither team was able to score in the 9th inning. The Rockies were lead by short stop Jordan Marks with three hits and one RBI in five at bats.

....The first game yesterday evening was between the Derby Twins and the Casa Grande Cotton Kings. The Twins got off to a great start with help of Kevin Hall who demonstrated tremendous poise by stealing home in the first inning (as part of a triple steal) which allowed them to take a 1-0 lead. Cole Waddell picked up where Kevin left off with a double in the 4th that drove in three runs. Casa Grande showed some life in 7th inning where they managed to score two runs but it wasn't enough. The Twins cruised on to victory with a final score of 6-2.
